Speech & Swallowing

Losing speech or safe swallowing is among the most isolating parts of neurological illness, for the patient and for everyone trying to reach them. Our speech and language team starts with instrumental assessment, so therapy treats what is actually happening rather than what it looks like from outside.

Methods and equipment

  • FEES (fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing)
  • NMES (neuromuscular electrical stimulation) for dysphagia
  • LSVT LOUD voice treatment, particularly for Parkinson's
  • Aphasia therapy and AAC (alternative and augmentative communication)

Indicative intensity

Daily for most patients, with content adjusted to the phase of recovery.

First we find out exactly what is wrong. Then we treat that.

If speech or swallowing has changed, tell us what you are seeing day to day. Instrumental assessment usually explains it.
